This is a 3/4 length portrait of Timothy Fitch. The subject is seated and wearing a brown dress-coat and vest. His right arm rests on a table, on which lies an addressed letter; his left arm is at his hip. He faces in a 3/4 direction towards the proper left. He is before a neutral ground with a slight green hue. Further Remarks: Timothy Fitch (1725-1790) was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He prospered greatly as a merchant in Nantucket and Boston, but during the later years of the Revolution he met with many financial losses and retired from business, removing to Medford, where he eventually died.
