The extremely delicate and soft texture of this "gift" or "jewel" basket indicates that it was not intended for everyday use. Men collected the shells and birds, while women collected fibers and wove the baskets. As such, this basket reflects community collaboration, as well as the stewardship and vitality of the Pomo landscape.
