Signed LR in red paint '[artist signature] 06.'; inscribed UL in black ink '[unknown language]'; verso, UC edge of stretcher, in graphite 'old man and the sea 2, F61630'.

This is a semi-abstract image of an older man with a white beard and moustache in a boat that diagonally cuts through the center of the painting, dividing the picture down the center by two areas of color. The top/left is a deep red. The bottom/right is black. At the center, along the dividing line, the boat angled downward. The old man sits at the back center, behind two oars. He is wearing what appears to be a hat and suit, however, areas of the painting are depicted using swaths of color instead of sharp detail, allowing the objects to blend into one another. At the upper left corner, a whale or fish is beginning to emerge from the water.
