DESCRIPTION

This is a fluted, pear-shaped wall cistern with cover and basin. Carp, yellow-tail, and crabs swimming among aquatic plants decorate this beautifully enameled wall fountain or cistern. In the 1600s and 1700s, wall cisterns were widely used in Europe for rinsing one's hands during meals.
