DESCRIPTION

This is a Kokutani platter in a pine design. It comes with a wooden storage box. Screen painting influenced the landscape decoration on this large dish used in banquets. The impressionistic, swirling sky derives from the gold-leafed, raised-relief clouds on screens, while the differing perspectives used in representing trees, rocks, and buildings is consistent with East Asian painting techniques.
