- Kyozutsu (sutra container), 1175
- Gift of Edward Sylvester Morse, 1898
This is a bronze sutra container. This container bears a faint, incised inscription stating that it was made in 1175 to hold a copy of the Lotus Sutra. Further Remarks: In Japan during the 11th and 12th centuries, Buddhist scriptures were buried in cylinders such as this to preserve them through a predicted period of tribulation.
