This is a Katsina doll hand-carved from cottonwood root. The doll has a geometric, columnar shape and is completely decorated with paint in colors of blue, black, yellow, red, white and grey. The dolls head and shoulders are painted light blue.The eyes and nose are yellow, with orange details. There is a topknot of pheasant feathers on the head. Further Remarks: The original catalog card indicates that this is a "Tihus" representation of a Katsina. (See Anthropological Series, Field Columbian Museum, various pages for mention of "Tihus".)
