Nest of the marabunta wasp (Chartergus chartarius), about 1820 South America Donor Unknown, before 1821 EIMS515.1 When building nests, these South American wasps use a higher ratio of saliva to wood pulp than their North American counterparts do. The result is a nest hard enough to write on with a pen.
